About the project

RSAI examined how ECOWAS sections of the Trans-African Highway network could be maintained under harmonised technical standards and a sustainable regional financing approach.

The study organised road-condition, traffic and economic inputs into an HDM-4 model calibrated to West African operating conditions.

Scope of work

Build a network matrix of 59 homogeneous road sections.
Configure vehicle, traffic, climate, pavement and road-user-cost inputs.
Compare maintenance standards and funding scenarios.
Develop recommendations for regional road-asset management.

An HDM-4 analytical framework covering approximately 10,861 km across five TAH corridors.
Comparison of national and regional maintenance approaches.
Research presented at IRF Global R2T in Phoenix in November 2023.
